History

As any craft brewer at its beginnings, José began brewing in his house small batches of 20L, 50L and 100 litres.  This lasted for 7-8 years when he decided to become a professional brewer.

In 2003, due to high demands, José decided to look for a proper brewing space and founded the current brewery at Rue Fond Méan 6 in Saint-Georges-sur-Meuse an idyllic area close to Liège- one of Belgium’s greenest areas after The Ardennes.

The renovation works took one year and the brewery officially opened in 2005 with the first beers produced in 2006.

The first batch ever produced by José, was his Amber beer. The recipe hasn’t changed in over 22 years! The beer clearly represents the flagship of the brewery. It’s also one of the most loved drinks by the fans.  In 2016, it even got elected as Wallonia’s (Belgium’s southern region) best amber.

The second beer is the “la Liégeoise 1892”, a premium beer. It’s a light beer at 6% ABV. The technique used is dry hopping with the addition of hops towards the end of the process without being an American style IPA covering the taste of the beers.

The third beer is a brown ale which received gold and silver medals in the past two years in Belgian competitions. The range also includes a white and black beer (La Blanche and la Noire) which have been created about the same time. The white is a classical Belgian “Blanche” produced with grains such as oats and spelt. It is spiced with small quantities of hops to keep the bitterness low. Other spices traditionally include coriander and orange peel.

The Noir is the strongest of them all with 10.5% ABV. It contains chocolate and caramel malts. Although this beer may seem strong, it is sweetened with honey, making it very tasteful.

The brewery also has a honey beer made from local honey producers with a distinguish spiciness, a typical Belgian triple at 8% ABV.

José has also developed various “fruity” and sweet beers containing both fruits and “Cuberdons”- a local delicatessen very appreciated by candy lovers.
